Welcome

I have one rule in session: We have to laugh at least once.

I am so happy you are taking the time to work toward a better life. I am ecstatic to watch you take the time to put yourself first.

My name is JonTaye’ Bonds and I am a licensed professional counselor. I’m a person centered therapist eager to walk beside you as we take an exploratory journey into your values, behaviors, challenges, and overall needs.

How I work

As a person-centered therapist, you will lead and I will follow. Along the way we can increase your coping skills, learn more about mindfulness and begin to experience relaxation physically, mentally and spiritually.

Life is hard, work can be stressful, parenting can be chaotic, relationships can be confusing, and sometimes we are just not okay! Therapy can be a place where you learn more about yourself, your family of origin and the world around you. Even though life is hard we can still have peace. With a mindfulness approach, we can help you find your safe place. We can change how you relate to the world and your suffering in a manner that benefits you. In a life that can sometimes be a rollercoaster, we will work together to handle the ups and downs.

My goal as a therapist is to create a positive, authentic and safe environment for individuals, teens/adolescents, couples and groups. I am thrilled to join you on a portion of your journey.

Therapist spotlight

What made you decide to become a counselor?

AP Psychology my junior year of high school. Psychology and people made sense and I wanted to learn more. Since then everything aligned schools, conversations, populations all lead me to becoming a therapist. It felt right when I made the decision and has continued to be confirmed for the last 10 years of my career.

If you could teach the world one skill or technique to improve their lives, what would it be?

Reflecting on your faults without judgement.

If you could recommend one book to all your clients, what would it be?

Brené Brown -Rising Strong and The Power of Vulnerability

How do you personally practice self-care?

Roller skating, nice lotions, therapy, eating well, having difficult conversations (even when I don't want to), art and improv.

Have you personally been in counseling and if so, what did you learn about yourself?

Yes!! I love therapy. I have learned how to heal some very difficult relationships. I've learned how to calm my body, how to shift my thoughts and how to change behaviors that no longer serve me. I've learned to accept my quirky parts.

What inspires you to help others?

There have been points when I needed help and someone walked the journey with me I love to be that person for others. The look of relief when a client feels seen, heard and validated. The human connection and the laughter and eye rolls when I challenge a client and they feel comfortable enough to push back. My heart and faith in Jesus allows me to have the capacity

Who is your ideal client?

Someone new to therapy and ready to make some changes. Someone who is learning about themselves and working to accept the less favorable parts. A client that's open to laugh, learn, grow with some occasional tears.

How do you relate to Mindfulness? How do you incorporate it in your sessions?

Body scans, progressive muscle relaxation and virtual mindfulness walks. We practice paying attention on purpose without judgement. We get curious with what's coming up and where it could originate from. We practice bodily awareness with simple reminders of tension in shoulders.

If you are hosting a dinner party, who are the 3 people you would invite and why?

Whew the idea of hosting a party is stressful enough and I can only invite 3 people!?
